Abstract

This paper deals with the most widespread in the ancient time treatment methods, which were revealed on the first time considered field and archive materials on the national methods of treatment having pragmatic function. In ethno-cultural tradition of the Buryats, national knowledge of the doctors who got an education in Buddhist temples takes the specific place. From ancient times the Buryats addressed their help, they were strong in use of century knowledge of traditional medicine and herbs. The healers were lamas-emchi (monks-doctors), who knew the Buddhist medical tradition based on the system of knowledge of the Tibetan medicine. In addition, in shamanic and Buddhist traditions of the Buryats there are similar ways of treatment of patients. The material collected in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China shows that certain precautionary measures for the prevention of various diseases, for the strengthening of immunity and physical development of the person were very important. Results of the fieldworks among the local group of the Buryat ethnos in China allowed revealing high degree of safety of ethno-cultural tradition of the Buryats, living in the foreign-language environment. The main objective of paper is to characterize the household ceremonies of life protection that present the syncretic unity of the national ideas of healing methods and the Buddhist treating practices. Research materials allowed revealing the pragmatic aspects of Buddhist ceremonial actions. It is determined that in Buddhist treatment ceremonies the most effective methods apprehended from the centuries-old practice of national treatment methods and the shaman ceremonial actions on life protection are applied. The Buddhist rituals increase efficiency of influence accumulated on the ancient representations of ancient people about the life protection. In general, we conclude that ceremonies on the protection and treatment of patients having the ancient roots, which proved the practical results, still remain demanded in the national environment. Especially in recent years, the traditional methods of treatment are being studied and put into practice.
