Abstract

New data from large-scale salvage excavations in the flood zone of the Boguchansky reservoir relate to a variety of geomorphological conditions that threaten Paleolithic sites and geological objects, and also reveal important problems connected to the conservation of the archaeological record. To date, the flood zone occupying Irkutsk’s part of the Boguchansky reservoir includes 12 sites, five of which are located in the Kata-Yodarma area of the Angara Velley. Our preliminary assessment is that at a minimum, these sites date to the second half of the middle Pleistocene.
