Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of ritual functions of the traditional Mongolian clothing, the clothing' semantics according to the traditional notions of the person, the current existence of the traditional beliefs associated with clothing and its using in the rituals. The functions of the clothing as a tool of socialization are interesting too. Part of traditional clothing were marked in different rituals for the attraction and accumulation of wealth and happiness. Of course, the opposite ritual acts were committed with the items of clothing during the funeral rite. For example, in order to avoid the negative effects of contact with the dead, during the funeral the protective measures are executed by a person who should first touch the dead. The functional study of clothing and its elements in rituals confirm the importance of a costume complex as the equivalent of the human body. Number of customs, taboos, omens associated with clothes reflect the views of the traditional culture on the device of the world, society, the views of the mythical ancestors on happiness and wealth. Many of these ideas have already lost its content but remain actual nowadays.
